Competition entry - LNER A9 pacific by 2509-Silverlink Competition entry - LNER A9 pacific by 2509-Silverlink
This is my entry for 4472FlyingScotsman's sprite competition: [link]

The locomotive is my fictional LNER A9 pacific, designed in 1950 just appearing in the early BR apple green livery. It is a culmination of the LNER's pacific technology, combining the Peppercorn A1, Gresley A3 and Gresley A4

It will probably need to be scaled down to about 75% for sprite scenes

Very impressive indeed. I think this should be a real LNER pacific.

You think me stretching an 8P into a 16P was a bad idea compared to this?

Thanks :D Yours at least looks like a feasible loco in a common livery, which is more than can be said for some :)

This is wicked cool. I was looking at it for quite some time, wondering what it was, before I read enough of your description to see that it was a fictional design, so convincingly realistic it is. =D

Very handsome work! ^^

Thanks :D

It's essentially an A3 with the regular 5000 gallon non corridor tender and A1/A2 firebox skirting, with an A4 cab and nose. The inspiration for the pony truck to be valanced but not the driving wheels came from the P2.

So in effect, even though it's fictional it is an LNER thoroughbread :)

Indeed. =D That must be why you had me fooled!

Now if you had stuck on a GWR boiler, LMS smoke deflectors, and a Southern tender... 'twouldn't have done at all. =D

I've only just realised I'm not far off a Peppercorn A1 with this. Raise the footplate height and biuld a new nose and it's practically there :D
